Chronique d'un Iran interdit
France // 2011 //
Couleur // 80'
Farsi/English with French subtitles
Since the revolt that followed the 2009 presidential election, Iran has been suffering under a wall of silence. Far from the eyes of the international community and hidden by a national policy of in camera, the repression has continued with ferocious intensity. People gone missing, prisoners, torture victims and those under surveillance are legion. Working with images she filmed herself and undercover videos made by local people using their mobile phones, accomplished film-maker Manon Loizeau provides an account of more than two years of daily violence. Activists, bloggers, rap performers and mothers whose children have been assassinated share their anger and their despair. Their inalienable dreams as well. A powerful film, an ode to liberty and courage carried by the words of one mother: “Don’t ever ask me to keep quiet”.
