No words can describe war, that grim reaper of innocents that has crushed countless lives. Only free people can exorcise war: street entertainers, artists, conjurers, those whose natural grace defends them against shells and allows them to tame tanks. When a circus troupe turns up in a family shattered by war, humanity reclaims its rights. Love replaces pain, desire resurfaces, and inside the circus tent, life dares to thumb its nose at death for the last time.
With Fellini-like undertones, this unabashedly beautiful and deeply moving allegory on war hits hard. With no dialogue, and thrown into relief by some stunning acting, it appeals to the dream-life that exists within each of us to triumph over the world’s ugliness.
