Sonita, Grand Jury Prize winner at Sundance will screen on the FIFDH’s Opening night!

On the back of winning the Audience Award at IDFA, Sonita was awarded the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival.The film will screen on the FIFDH’s opening night at 7pm on March 4th at Pitoëff, for which Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, High-Commissioner for Human Rights will be in attendance. Both the director, Rokhsareh Ghaem Maghami, and the film’s actress, Sonita Alidazeh, will be present at the festival. Congratulation to Intermezzo Films and the RTS who co-produced this beautiful documentary. The film will be released in Swiss cinemas on March 30th.

Brillante Mendoza at FIFDH

Famous Filipino filmmaker Brillante Mendoza will present his latest film Taklub, an award winner in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard section. He will also hold a Talking Heads conference on March 10th, in collaboration with HEAD-Genève.

A major international support: the Ford Foundation

In 2016, the FIFDH is joining the prestigious «Visionaries on the Frontlines of Social Changes Worldwide» club by receiving the support of the US’ Ford Foundation. The foundation’s cinema branch, JustFilms, is one of the most important supports for world cinema dedicated to social justice. Cara Mertes, director of JustFilms, will be attending the Festival.

Tragic disappearance of photographer Leila Alaoui

The whole team is overwhelmed by the sudden passing of Leila Alaoui following the injuries sustained during the attack in Ouagadougou. Our thoughts are with her friends and family.

The FIFDH opens up!

The poster for the 14th International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights (FIFDH) features a photography by Moroccan artist Leila Alaoui, chosen among her ’No Pasara’ collection of portraits of young Moroccans dreaming of a better future. Leila Alaoui’s works will be exhibited at the Maison des arts du Grütli and she will hold an artist residency at CAIRN, in Meyrin, in the context of the Festival.

The 14th edition of the International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights (FIFDH) will take place in Geneva from the 4th to the 13th of March 2016 and will extend for the first time to 11 municipalities of the Greater Geneva, but also to Lausanne and Orbe.

The full program will be revealed on February 23.

petition : Nobel Peace Prize for Greek Islanders

The FIFDH supports the petition asking for granting the Nobel Peace Prize to the residents of Greek islands, for the help given to Syrian refugees on the front lines of this migration crisis.
